When I’ve had the opportunity to talk with teachers who are friends and acquaintances about this job, I’ve watched as their eyes light up when I describe what it’s about. They see the amazing opportunity for what it is, and they realize that there are very few districts that have the resources or the desire to intentionally take on such a focus.
It is an amazing opportunity. To have a dedicated group of private citizens, the Center for Creativity, who, in conjunction with a great school district, identified a need and a direction and went out and raised the funds to make it possible. To have an administration that sees beyond the current rage for testing and quantified accountability. To have a community with a history of innovation, but also with a size that allows for close communication and connections. To have a staff of educators who are curious about new challenges and meeting the needs of students in new ways. That’s the position we are all in together.
