In September of 2006, the River Valley School District Board of Education signed a Letter of Intent with the Spring Green Center for Creativity and Innovation. This Letter calls for “strengthening further the link between the community’s schools and the richness and diversity of community resources as a means of providing creative and innovative learning opportunities to classrooms and students.” Its goal is to “significantly enhance RVSD’s already strong reputation for creativity and innovation and to effect a positive, long-term impact on school enrollment and on the recognition of the River Valley community as a great place to work and live.” A sixty percent, year-round Creative Learning Facilitator position was created from this process, and it is the centerpiece of C4C and RVSD’s commitment to achieving this goal.
The Creative Learning Facilitator (CLF) position is funded entirely by the Spring Green Center for Creativity. The idea for C4C was born out of a) the recognition that the Spring Green area has a long history of attracting and being hospitable to creative individuals in all walks of life, and b) the perception that innovative ideas and creative people are the key to both economic success and personal fulfillment. C4C’s mission, then, is to recognize and promote creativity and innovation in business, industry, government, education, the arts, and civic and community life.
The CLF position is the answer to the question, “How can we make sure that the community’s abundance of creative ideas and people is fully available as a learning resource for our children?” Thus, rather than being created out of the perception of a deficiency, the CLF was the result of recognizing the breadth and depth of our community assets.
River Valley School District's CLF is Heather Terrill Stotts.
