About my Classroom

In my sixth grade U.S. History class, we use a book named:  America:  The People and the Dream by the Scott, Foresman & Company.  I chose this book because of the way the book uses questions to peak the students interest, notes vocabulary words that are new to the students, and gives a review at the end of the unit.  I jump in and out of my book using other resources such as Junior Scholastics, videos that pertain to the unit, and informational handouts that go along with the unit.  So students do not use their books every day.

I require the students to bring six things to my class every day.  These six things are as follows:  History book, history notebook, history folder, supply bag, assignment notebook, and a library book.  Once the students are used to bringing all six of these to my classroom, I check two to three times a week to make sure that they are bringing everything to class.

I usually give the students two to three assignments a week.  Sometimes they need their books to complete these and sometimes they don't.

I tell all my students that there are only two things that I won't tolerate, disrespect and lying.  I tell them I will treat them with respect and always be truthful with them and I expect the same.  I have found through the years that most of my students understand this and honor it.
