Current Events
In my history class I do
not give out a lot of extra credit but during the second semester, I start having the
students bring in current events which are worth extra credits points. I have charts
on the back wall where I keep track of who brings in a current event. The students
can get these from the radio, the television or the newspaper. It is important that
the students realize that these must be "current," not something that they read
three weeks ago. I stress to the students that they need to know what is going on in
the state, the nation and the world. One thing that I will not take as a current
event, is sports scores. I don't feel that the students really gain any knowledge
from someone who gives the score of a basketball or football game. At the end of the
quarter, extra credit points are reviewed and assigned accordingly.
