Assignments and Take Homework

In 4th grade assignments tend to be more challenging thus more time, effort, and thought needs to be put into the work.  This does not mean I am assigning a lot of work, but as students progress in school the level of assignment difficulty, length, and expectations do increase.  I am very fair in giving time during class and at various times during the school day to work on assignments.  I actually keep track each day of how much time I do give for work, so I have a consistant record for mysself and for those parents who do question.   Naturally the time element does vary depending on days that are "late start" or a day when we have at least "2" specials.
Work time is what it states, "work time" and those students who do not use their time efficiently may have more take home work than others.  I also am a parent whose children are busy in sports, extra curricular activities, and church related activities, however, school work is expected to be completed the next day regardless of what night it is, unless I have been contacted by a parent.
Students are encouraged to hand in assignments upon completion so the work isn't lost.  Those students who need to complete assignments at home are expected to hand in the work first thing the next morining, unless told differently.   During the first quarter I personally check each student out at the end of the day so that all assignments that need to be completed are taken home.
