President Anderson opened the meeting. He noted that the meeting had been properly noticed and provided to the appropriate media and each School Board Member. Smith moved to proceed with the legal meeting. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

CESA #3 Annual Meeting Report
Pitts attended the meeting on August 1 as the Board’s delegate. He noted that one session focused on the importance of education since there are not enough jobs for unskilled labor. There was another session that focused on shopping for insurance as an entire CESA (all 31 districts in CESA #3).

High School Graduation Date
Kaukl recommends Friday, June 6, as the graduation date for the Class of 2003. He asked the Board to contact him with suggestions.

On a separate matter, Kaukl noted that the September 20 football game at Darlington is at 2:00 p.m. since they do not have lights for their football field. He asked for suggestions on the school schedule for this day.

Consent Agenda - Checks, Invoices, Receipts from July 2002
Smith moved to approve the consent agenda items as submitted. Peach seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action to Adjourn to Closed Session Pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 and 111.70 to discuss 2001-2003 RVEA Collective Bargaining Update and 19.85(1)(c) to discuss Teacher Employment Consideration and Administrator Contracts
Caraway moved to adjourn to closed session at 7:52 p.m. pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 and 111.70 to discuss 2001-2003 RVEA Collective Bargaining Update and 19.85(1)(c) to discuss Teacher Employment Consideration and Administrator Contracts. Limmex seconded. Polled vote was 8-0 in the affirmative with 1 absent. Motion carried.

The Board reconvened in open session at 8:47 p.m.

Consideration & Action on Administrator Contracts
Smith moved to extend administrator contracts for one year and to approve salaries for 2002-03 as follows: Wermuth, $55,910; Benson, $87,752.61; Richardson, $55,910; Briehl, $55,910; Hoffman, $65,513; Kaukl, $71,000; Palm-Leis, $56,189.26; and Mahoney, $69,498.25. Peach seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Resolutions Accepting Teacher Resignations
Limmex moved to adopt the Resolution Accepting Teacher Resignation for Matt Olinski. Pitts seconded. Polled vote was 8-0 in the affirmative with 1 absent.

Smith moved to adopt the Resolution Accepting Teacher Resignation for Paul Swanson and to cancel his request for a sabbatical leave for the 2002-03 school year. Pitts seconded. Polled vote was 8-0 in the affirmative with 1 absent. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Teacher Transfer
Limmex moved to approve the transfer of Brenda Strozinsky to Half Time High School Guidance Counselor while remaining as Half Time Middle School ED Teacher. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Teacher Hirings
Smith moved to approve the hiring of Erin Schultz as Occupational Therapist. Peach seconded. Motion carried.

Limmex moved to approve the hiring of Nicole Henkel as Spring Green Elementary Phy. Ed. Teacher. Caraway seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Adoption of Student, Staff, Athletic, and Coaches Handbooks
Smith moved to adopt the middle school student and staff handbooks. Nelson seconded. Motion carried.

Smith moved to adopt the high school student, staff, and athletic handbooks. Pronold seconded. Motion carried.

Limmex moved to adopt the elementary student and staff handbooks. Caraway seconded. Motion carried.

There were no changes to the coaches handbook.

Consideration & Action on River Valley School District/St. Luke’s Hold Harmless Agreements
Smith moved to approve the two hold harmless agreements permitting St. Luke’s to use the gymnasium at Plain Elementary and permitting the River Valley School District to use playground area at St. Luke’s. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

Peach moved to adjourn at 9:17 p.m. Smith seconded. Motion carried.
