President Anderson opened the meeting. He noted that the meeting had been properly noticed and provided to the appropriate media and each School Board Member. Peach moved to proceed with the legal meeting. Smith seconded. Motion carried.

Establishment of a Performing Arts Facility – Feasibility Committee
Benson will meet again with music teachers in the district to form a list of people to contact to study the feasibility of a performing arts facility in the district.

Set Policy Committee Meeting Date
A Policy Committee meeting has been set for Tuesday, July 24, at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office.

Set Budget/Maintenance/Transportation Committee Meeting Date
A Budget/Maintenance/Transportation Committee has been set for Thursday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office.

High School Principal Hiring Process
Pronold, Nelson, Peach, and Limmex voiced interest in being on the screening committee for reviewing applications for the high school principal position. Interviews will take place on July 2 and 3 at 6:00 p.m. A teacher, parent, and student representative will be invited to be on the panel.

Consent Agenda: Checks, Invoices, Receipts from May 2001; Open Session Meeting Minutes--April 19, April 26, May 10
Limmex moved to approve the consent agenda items as submitted. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Budget/Maintenance/Transportation Committee Recommendations
Mahoney noted that there is a potential deficit of $150,000 in the 2001-02 budget mainly due to the addition of several instructional assistant positions, yet the administrative team has a plan to offset this deficit. Smith moved to approve the addition of 1 full time, 2 half time, and 1 three-quarters time education assistants. Caraway seconded. Motion carried. Benson noted that this type of action maintains a commitment to low class sizes and to meeting the needs of all children while prioritizing student needs ahead of other budget reductions.

Mahoney stated that there is a projected $13,960 deficit in the food service program next year. Limmex moved to increase student meal costs by $.10 and adult meal costs by $.20. Smith seconded. Motion carried.

Smith moved to approve a property easement for the Rasmussen subdivision. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

Smith moved to approve the installment of bleachers on a ball diamond we lease to St. Luke’s, at their cost. Pronold seconded. Motion carried.

Caraway moved to purchase 50 computers from ATS in Richland Center for a cost of $704 per machine with a 2-year warranty. Roske seconded. Motion carried. It was noted that district computers are replaced, on average, every five years.

Consideration & Action on Two Teacher Partial Leaves of Absence
Smith moved to approve Andrea Kinney’s request to take a partial leave of absence and transfer to the 50% Title One Teacher position at Plain Elementary for 2001-02 contingent on Kinney signing a memo of understanding. Limmex seconded. Motion carried.

Caraway moved to approve Nick Ehlinger’s request to take a partial leave of absence one day per week for 2001-02 contingent on Ehlinger signing a memo of understanding. Roske seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Teacher Hirings
Smith moved to hire Laura Waldsmith as the 3rd Grade Teacher at Lone Rock Elementary. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

Smith moved to hire Michael McDermott for one year only (2001-02) as the 5th Grade Teacher at Plain Elementary. Limmex seconded. Motion carried.

Caraway moved to hire Peter Chambas as the K-1 SAGE Teacher at Arena and Lone Rock. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

Limmex moved to hire Cheri Jacobson as the 8th Grade LD Teacher. Smith seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action to Adjourn to Closed Session Pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 and 111.70 to discuss 2001-2003 RVEA Collective Bargaining Update
Roske moved to adjourn to closed session at 8:50 p.m. pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 and 111.70 to discuss 2001-2003 RVEA Collective Bargaining Update. Caraway seconded. Polled vote was 9-0 in the affirmative. Motion carried.
