President Anderson opened the meeting. He noted that the meeting had been properly noticed and provided to the appropriate media and each School Board Member. Pitts moved to proceed with the legal meeting. Limmex seconded. Motion carried.

All in attendance paused for a moment of silence in respect for the victims of the recent terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Hoffman gave a brief update on district communications with students, parents, and staff regarding the terrorist attacks.

Teen Assessment Project Survey (TAPS) for 7th Graders
District AODA Coordinator Cynthia Green provided the Board with information pertaining to an upcoming survey to be given to 7th grade students. This survey is being conducted as a condition of the receipt of Tobacco Grant monies from Iowa County. Parents/Students can opt out of completing this survey.

Policy Committee Update
There was discussion about academic ineligibility versus ineligibility due to alcohol use (or other violations) and the equity of penalties issued. Specifics will be reviewed by Griffin, Kaukl, and coaching staff with a recommendation to come to the Policy Committee.

Administrators and health teachers will meet on September 20 to review WIDS health curriculum compared to the Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee’s recommendation.

K-12 Planet Update
Hoffman reported that the pilot group of parents that have been using the K-12 Planet software want to continue the use of the software and expand the program. This software allows parents to view individual student data via the Internet.

Budget Update 2001-02 (Third Friday Count Impact)
Mahoney noted that the enrollment count on the third Friday in September is expected to be down from last year by 45 students. The impact will result in an $80,000 deficit of which $33,000 still needs to be covered.

First Student, Inc. (formerly Verona Bus)
Mahoney reported that Verona Bus is now called First Student, Inc. We have extended our current contract through the 2002-03 school year. The Budget/Maintenance/Transportation Committee will make a recommendation in December on whether to request bids for transportation services after 2002-03.

Change November Regular Meeting Date
Because of a November 1 deadline to finalize the 2001-02 budget and tax levy, the November regular Board meeting will be held on Thursday, November 1.

Kim Kaukl announced that senior Erica Strandjord was recognized as a national merit semifinalist. Congratulations, Erica!

Consent Agenda: July 12, 2001, and August 9, 2001 Meeting Minutes; Checks, Invoices, Receipts from August 2001
Limmex moved to accept the consent agenda items as submitted. Roske seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Teacher Resignation
Limmex moved to accept the resignation of our Elementary SAGE/Fine Arts Teacher, Chris Kratzke. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Teacher Maternity Leaves
Caraway moved to approve maternity leave for Lori Baryenbruch from February 18 to the end of the school year. Pitts seconded. Motion carried.

Roske moved to approve maternity leave for Cheryl Crook from March 15 to the end of the school year. Pronold seconded. Motion carried.

Limmex moved to approve maternity leave for Tina Halverson from February 4 to April 17. Roske seconded. Motion carried.

Pitts moved to approve maternity leave for Lori Hoffman from March 22 to the end of the school year. Caraway seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action on Employment of Teachers
Caraway moved to hire Marjorie Windram as the part time Elementary Fine Arts Teacher. Limmex seconded. Motion carried.

Limmex moved to hire Alissha Kraemer as a full time Spring Green Elementary SAGE Teacher. Pronold seconded. Motion carried.

Consideration & Action to Adjourn to Closed Session Pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 and 111.70 to discuss 2001-2003 RVEA Collective Bargaining Update and RVEST Collective Bargaining Update
Caraway moved to adjourn to closed session at 8:45 p.m. pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 19.85 and 111.70 to discuss 2001-2003 RVEA Collective Bargaining Update and RVEST Collective Bargaining Update. Roske seconded. Polled vote was 7-0 in the affirmative with 2 absent. Motion carried.
