All About Title 1

What is Title 1?

     Title 1 is a federally funded program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).  The program rienforces regular classroom instruction, assisting children with basic reading and writing skills.  River Valley Title 1 services are offered to Kindergarten through Third grades.   River Valley Title 1 teachers are licensed reading professionals, and continue to further their education in the area of reading, keeping abreast of current research in the best ways to help children learn to read. 

How are students selected?

      Students are selected based upon parent or teacher recomendation, classroom performance and testing.  Students are prioritized based upon need. 

How are services offered?


     Title 1 services are offered both in the classroom and through pullout, depending upon the needs of the individual student.  A variety of learning experiences are provided.  Title 1 teachers offer specialized instruction to rienforce and supplement classroom learning.   Every effort is made to individualize instruction and build the confidence and self esteem of Title 1 students.

How can parents help?

    Parents are a child's first and most important teacher.  They are the most influential in helping to form a child's educational attitude, work habits and interest in school.  Parents can help by attending parent/teacher conferences, participating in school events and helping their children with homework and projects at home.  The most valuable gift parents can gieve their children, is their time.   Reading with and to them is a vital part of helping them learn to read and enjoying it.
