Text Box: You've heard of spelling bees, quiz bowls, robotics competitions and science fairs. In fact, there is probably a special event for every subject taught at school.   Well, Destination ImagiNation is none of those things – and all of those things!  Destination ImagiNation (DI) is an opportunity for kids to take what they know and practice what they are good at to solve challenges, all while working together cooperatively with a team.  It allows students to push the limits of their imagination to reach personal levels of achievement.
Text Box: Destination ImagiNation is a River Valley School District sponsored program that builds participants' creativity, problem solving skills, and teamwork in enjoyable and meaningful ways.
Text Box: DI is about teaching children how to work together on teams, to tap into their creativity, and to find innovative and unique solutions to complex and difficult challenges.  At the same time, DI helps students learn the art and skill of thinking on their feet, using what they know and improvising the rest, to be creative problem solvers.  DI empowers students and they learn that no challenge is too big, too hard or too complex to be solved.
Text Box: What can parents do to help?  LOTS of things!  Consider being a Team Manager or Co-Team Manager.  Don't worry..... we'll have lots of resources for you!   You can help your student's team find resource people to teach special skills (painting, drawing, prop building, sewing, mechanical design, etc.).  You can provide nutritious, low-sugar treats for team meetings.  You can help transport props to competitions and presentations.  We need people to videotape skit practices so members can critique themselves.  Be a DI Booster!  Help get the word out that DI is a great program for our entire district!
