Letter of Intent
The River Valley School District (RVSD) and the Spring Green Center for Creativity and Innovation (C4C) believe in the critical importance of recognizing and encouraging creativity and innovation. Therefore, it is the intent of RVSD and C4C to work together to recognize and encourage these aptitudes in River Valley students.
To achieve this:
1) Starting in the 06-07 school year, RVSD will offer to students a well-known and highly regarded creativity-stimulating program such as Odyssey of the Mind (OM) or Destination Imagination (DI). A part-time Creativity Coordinator will be hired by RVSD, using federal funds designated for this purpose.
2) Drawing upon the creative richness and diversity of the River Valley area, C4C will strengthen further the link between the district and community resources to provide creative and innovative learning opportunities to classrooms and students. Examples of these resources include guest speakers, partnerships with innovative businesses, visiting artists and skilled workers, and in-service workshops.
3) During the 06-07 school year, C4C will seek private funding to hire a part-time Creativity Coordinator to implement section 2 above. Both RVSD and C4C will be involved in the further development of the position description and in the oversight and evaluation of the Coordinator
4) The C4C Educators Creativity Book Club project and the public forums on Creativity in Early Childhood, both started in 05-06 by Jan Von Stein, will continue in 06-07.
5) The RVSD theme for 06-07 will be Creativity and Innovation.
6) This project is intended to benefit as wide a range of students as possible, and to do so without negatively impacting the existing financial resources of RVSD. Its goal is to significantly enhance RVSDs already strong reputation for creativity and innovation and to effect a positive, long-term impact on school enrollment and on the recognition of the River Valley community as a great place to work and live.
