The school calendar for the River Valley School District shall be developed by the Board through negotiations with representatives of the River Valley Education Association.
The calendar shall specify the opening and closing dates of school and provide for a minimum term of 180 teaching days.
Activity Calendars:
The Central Office shall maintain a calendar for all district activities. Building principals shall be responsible for maintaining school activity calendars for their respective schools. Booking dates shall be available on a first-come, first-served basis with the district calendar having priority over other calendars.
Administrators shall refrain from scheduling school activities on Wednesday evenings after 6:15 p.m., except as otherwise provided. Schools may be opened on Wednesday evenings, with permission of the administration, but only for special functions or occasions.
School facilities may be open to adults on Wednesday evenings, with special permission of the administration. In all cases, school-sponsored functions will be given priority in scheduling.
No regularly scheduled rehearsals or practices may be held on Sundays or holidays. However, under extreme circumstances, the administration may allow the use of school buildings and facilities on Sundays and holidays for concerts or special school activities attended by the general public.
