Policy #333 - Curriculum Evaluation

The River Valley Board of Education believes that evaluation is the only means of learning whether the educational objectives adopted by the Board are being achieved.  Evaluation of the instructional program shall be a continuous activity in which the members of the professional staff and the Board may participate.  Special sessions may be included as part of the regular Board meetings to assess and evaluate curriculum.

The Board shall delegate to the professional staff the specific evaluation of the instructional processes.  The Board, however, shall make final evaluation decisions.

The purposes for curriculum evaluation are as follows:

1.   To indicate curriculum strengths and weaknesses;

2.   To provide information needed for advanced planning;

3.   To provide data for public information;

4.   To show the relationship between achievement and the system's stated goals;

5.   To assist in the understanding of administrative regulations and the needs of the system; and

6.   To check on the suitability of the program in terms of community requirements.
