Classroom Routines
The ultimate goal of 5th grade study, in addition to the learning of academic material, is to prepare the student for Middle School. Responsibility, consistency, and working up to his/her abilities are stressed in the classroom.
Students are expected to keep an assignment notebook with current daily information. The notebook is checked periodically to see that students are making proper use of the book. Communication between parents and teachers lets the student know that his/her education is very important. Any notes that need to be written to the parents are also written in the notebook.
Students take home a folder each Friday with corrected homework. They are encouraged to go through the corrected homework with a parent to review the work. Any paper that has a note at the top stating that the student can do the paper over for a better grade can be turned back in for more credit.
Progress reports are sent home with the student about the middle of each quarter. The parents and the student can see what progress is being made. If things are not what the parents or student want them to be, there is a half of a quarter to bring the grades up. More effort on the part of the student will accomplish this. Also, the student understands that if the grades are where they should be, the effort should be maintained.
Each student is encouraged to make the most of this last year of their elementary schooling.
