SECOND GRADE NEWS!

I want to wish all of you wonderful mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day. I hope you all have a relaxing day. You deserve it!

REMEMBER . . . . .
FIELD DAY for second graders has been rescheduled for Tues. May 16th. Let’s hope it’s a beautiful sunny day! The second graders are very excited about this day! I know we’ll have a great time.

The second graders will have a reading party on Wednesday, May 24th. Everyone is welcome to bring in their favorite books, blanket and pillow. We’ll enjoy a quiet afternoon of reading and relaxing.

Just a reminder that the students will be making special books entitled All About Me. You will be asked to fill out some pages that will ask for information about family members. Thank you in advance for your help with this special book.

Next week we will do a literature study of My Father’s Dragon. I will be asking the students to read 2-3 chapters each evening.

Please send a stamp to school by Friday, May 19th. We will be writing letters to the "future" second graders and mailing them. Thanks much!

Remember . . . Thursday, May 25th we are performing a play in the second grade classroom. All second grade families are invited. The show will begin promptly at 6:15. I hope to see you all there!

Math – We are extending place-value concepts to ten thousands. Also, the students were introduced to parentheses puzzles. (4+3)-3=
We will continue our discussion of multiplication and division.

Science ~ The solar system
We’ll talk about what planets are in our solar system and what causes day and night.

Social Studies ~ We are reading about the roles of public officials, including mayor, governor, and the President.
