Plain Elementary School
December, 2007

Principal Note

Much colder weather is coming our way and our playground can be especially windy and cold! Please check with your little ones in the morning to make sure they have outdoor clothing suitable to allow them comfortable participation on the playground. While we certainly don’t take them out in adverse or extreme cold conditions, we do try to see that they get some fresh air and winter activity. Students are welcome to leave these items at school in their cubby overnight or over the weekend. From time to time we do have children without winter gear. Please let us know if we can help in obtaining these items.

Nurses Notes

Over the past few years we have implemented a No Eating policy on our school buses. The reasons for this are many but the most significant reason relates to the increase in food allergies among our students. Peanut and tree nut related food items can be especially life threatening. Strict avoidance of the allergy causing food is the only way to prevent a reaction. ANY exposure to peanuts or nuts through direct or indirect contact or ingestion can cause a severe and potentially life threatening allergic reaction, requiring immediate medical treatment. This policy is part of the appropriate steps we have taken to provide a safe educational environment for students with life-threatening food allergies. Please talk with your children about the importance of following this policy. Someone’s life could depend on it.
