Plain Elementary School
February, 2008

We’ve just begun our third quarter of the school year! At this rate, Spring will be here before we know it!

Speaking of the weather, please make sure your children come to school with snow pants, boots, hats and gloves. It does get cold on our hill and it is better to be prepared each day for the changing weather.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Spring Conferences will be held on Tuesday, February 19th from 3:30-7:30pm. These conferences are requested by the Teacher or the Parent. Slips will be coming home soon, please fill them out if needed and return to school. A confirmation will be sent home if applicable.

Reading Incentive Program

The theme for our reading incentive program this year will be "Reading Takes You Places". The program will run from February 4th until February 25th. More information will be coming home.

Book Sale

The PEP Club will be sponsoring a "Used Book Sale" during the May garage sale. All monies will go into the PEP Club general fund.

At this time we would like to start collecting new or slightly used children/adult books to sell. You may drop them off or have your child bring them to the school office. We are especially in need of Baby/Infant books.

2008-2009 Kindergarten News

Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2008 are eligible for kindergarten enrollment. This includes students attending all four public elementary schools (Plain, Lone Rock, Arena and Spring Green) as well as St. Johns and St. Luke's. To begin the enrollment process for your child, call Spring Green Elementary at 588-2559. It is important that you call even if you have children who currently attend school in the district.

Our Collection Goal is 3500 total!

Box Tops for Education

Please turn in your Box Tops by Feb. 15th and be sure to include the expiration date when cutting them out. Thank you to Constance Taylor for organizing this fundraiser.

Milk Caps

Drink your Milk but save the Caps! We collect from Kwik Trip, Foremost Farms, Land O Lakes and Kemps. Thank you to everyone for sending in your Milk Caps! Thank you to Michelle Johanning for organizing this fundraiser.

Bus Notes

In addition to notifying the school, please also call the Bus Barn at 588-3020 with any address or pick up changes. This helps keep the bus routes organized.

District Wide Spelling Bee

Fifth grade students representing Plain Elementary School at the district spelling bee were Nicole Alt, Allison Gibson, Kyla Krizan, Joe Meinholz, and Austin Mueller. The alternates were Travis Johnson and Claire Kaukl. Approximately 100 district students in grades 5, 6, and 7 participated in this annual event.

Family Fun Night

Mark your calendars for Friday, February 15th from 5:30-7:30. This family event is sponsored collaboratively by the Plain Elementary Staff and the PEP Club. Pizza and soda will be served from 5:30-6:00. (A sign up sheet will come home in February for those who wish to eat so that we can plan accordingly.) Starting at 6:00, families will rotate through three different activities planned for the evening. The climbing wall and cargo net will be ready for use in the gymnasium. David Daniels, from American Players Theatre, will lead "creative dramatics" in the library, while another group of families will enjoy board games and other games in the Music and Art rooms. Each activity will last for a half hour. Please join us for a night of family food and fun! If you have questions, please contact Mr. Radtke.
