Plain Elementary School
November, 2007

Principal Note

It is hard to believe that October is over, and we are nearly into the second quarter of school. The Fall Festival was a nice event for students and parents alike. Thanks to all who made this a success! Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner! Conferences take place the evening of Thursday, November 15th and the morning of Friday, November 16th. All parents are encouraged to attend their fifteen minute conference. This is a nice opportunity for parents and teachers to visit one another regarding student progress. Report cards will be handed out at conferences.

Have a great month!

Mr. Radtke

Annual Book Fair

The Title 1 Reading Program is making plans for a book fair to be held during Parent-Teacher Conferences:

Thursday Nov. 15 from 4-8pm

Friday, Nov. 16 from 8-11am

If you would be able to volunteer one hour of your time to help run the fair, please contact Mrs. Kinney, Title I Teacher.

What difference can it make to read aloud to a child for thirty minutes per day? Children who come to school who have not been read to are 2,000 hours of instruction behind their classmates who were read to. No teacher, no matter how talented, can make up for those lost hours of mental nourishment. Please take the time to feed your child a story!

No School Days

Wednesday, Nov. 7: Workshop Day

Friday, Nov. 16: Parent Teacher Conferences

Thursday, Nov. 22: Thanksgiving Vacation

Friday, Nov. 23: Thanksgiving Vacation

PEP Club Date Change

The next PEP Meeting will be November 5th at 7pm. Because the second Monday falls during Parent/Teacher Conference Week; we have moved the meeting up one week. Please come find out what PEP is all about and how you can be more involved in your child’s education.

Bucky Badger Day

November 9th help Bucky promote "got milk?’ and dress in red and white. There will also be some fun items and activities at lunch time.

On Time Arrivals & Early Departures

Our morning bell rings at 8:00 AM. Students who are not in the building when the bell rings will be counted as tardy. Having all students in their rooms to start the day helps all our classrooms get the day off to a great start.

Along the same lines, we would ask that parents avoid picking their children up early, if at all possible. The last half hour of the day is as important as the first half hour. We do recognize the need to occasionally remove a student early for a medical appointment. Our request would be that parents remove their children early only when absolutely necessary.

Thanks for your cooperation!

After School Pickups

When picking your children up from the playground after school, please tell one of the staff on playground duty so we know when they are leaving.

Cold Weather is Near!

Snow and cold are not far away! Please check with your little ones before they leave in the morning to make sure they have outdoor clothing suitable to allow them comfortable participation on the playground. While we certainly don’t take students out in adverse or extremely cold conditions, we do try to see that they get fresh air and winter activity. From time to time we do have children without heavy coats, hats, mittens, snow pants, and boots. If we can help in any way, please let us know.

Weather Delays & Cancellations

Every effort is made to notify school closing or delay information by 6AM. If the weather is looking questionable, please find a local radio or television station to see if our district has a closing or delay.
