Morning Reminders

Students who walk to school should not arrive before the doors open at 7:40.

Breakfast is served from 7:40 until 7:55.

Our morning bell rings at 8 AM, please be here on time.

Please avoid parking in front of the school in the mornings. The busses can only drop off students at the front door. If you need to enter the building please park in the parking lot so the busses can pull up to the doors. Thanks for your help in this matter.

Notes are Helpful

When a student’s routine end-of-day plan changes, we require a note in advance or a phone call before 2pm from a parent . Thanks for your help in keeping our little ones safe!

We welcome parents to join students for lunch but please send a note with students in the morning or call by 9 AM so we can get your lunch preference to help the kitchen prepare.

Permission Slips

Your teacher will not be sending a separate permission slip with each trip your child’s class takes during the course of the school year. At the beginning of the year, you signed a blanket permission slip for all field trips, which was on your child’s emergency form. Your teacher will always inform you when the class trip will occur, but you will not need to sign a slip for each event.

Delayed Starts

Just a reminder that breakfast is not served on delayed start days. Please mark the following delayed start days on your calendar: Oct. 3 , Dec. 5, Feb. 6, Apr. 2, May 7.

Special Schedule Change

Wednesday, October 24th will run as a Friday for special classes such as Art, Music, Phy.Ed, and Keyboarding.

Picture Retakes

Classroom group pictures and individual retakes will be taken the morning of Wednesday, October 10. Please return unwanted original packages or send a note if you need an order form.

Dressing Warm

Fall is officially upon us and along with it comes a chill in the air! Please be sure your little ones are wearing warm clothing to school as our morning recess can be quite cold. Please let us know if we can help obtain these clothing items for your family as much colder weather is just around the corner.

Fall Festival

Preparation for our annual Fall Festival has begun! Fall Festival has been scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, October 31. Exciting games, fun activities, creative costumes and yummy snacks will all be part of this much-anticipated event! As in the past, parent volunteers will be needed. More information will be sent home as it becomes available. A huge thank you to the PEP Club for all their work with Fall Fest!

Book Fair

During November’s Parent Teacher Conference Week we will have a Book Fair. We will be looking for volunteers to help with the cash box on Thurs. 11/15 from 4-8pm and Fri. 11/16 from 8-11am. Mrs. Kinney will be sending more information as we get closer.

Collection Contest

This year the contest will be by last names beginning with A-L and M-Z. Please bring Box Tops, Milk Caps and Printer Cartridges to school from Oct 1st-19th. Bag each item separately and label with your last name. The next contest will be in February.

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

The 2007-2008 school year has gotten off to a wonderful start! September was a busy month with back to school events and homecoming. A big thank you to everyone who helps make these events meaningful for our students!

I hope all is going well for your child(ren) at Plain Elementary! As you know, there have been some changes in our discipline program as well as a new rule regarding playing at recess (see attached info). Please know that these changes are being made in an attempt to make our school a better place for all children.

Attendance at the Back To School Picnic has declined over the past two years, and we are looking to make changes for next year. You will receive information later in the year regarding this.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s education at Plain Elementary. I am again splitting time between Lone Rock Elementary, Plain Elementary, and River Valley High school, but you can leave a message with the secretary and I will be notified.

Sincerely,

Mr. Radtke

Elementary Health Screenings

The school nurse will be conducting yearly health screenings in October. Health screenings will include height, weight and vision on all students. Additionally, kindergarten, first and second grade students will be screened for hearing. 5th grade students will be screened for blood pressure. Screenings are conducted to help identify health concerns, to facilitate early intervention or treatment. If a student is identified with a health concern, parent/guardian will receive a letter in the mail, recommending follow up evaluation by a health care provider. Additionally, all parents/guardians will receive a letter that includes his/her child’s height and weight, instructions for calculating Body Mass Index (BMI) and a link to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) website, for further information.
