Class Description
Wordle: Math 6

All students will use Impact Mathematics series throughout their time at River Valley Middle School.  Students are placed within classes to carry them through their level of skill and to be successful. The different classes of math offered are designed to meet the various needs of students at their skill level as well as to assist them with improving & gaining math skills.  For students to be successful it is essential they know their multiplication facts.  My goal is for each student to successfully build and master math skills which are necessary to carry them through their schools years and into life. Please scroll down to see objectives for each level.

ACCELERATED MATH (3rd & 6th hours)

Students will begin the year with Impact Math course one text book.  Students will be asked to explore and try new strategies on their own, working with partners and within small groups.  All students will be expected to work independently and to challenge themselves.

              OBJECTIVES:

                    1. Students will become proficient with operations of fractions and decimals.
                               (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

                        2. Students can relate equivalents between fraction, decimals & percents.

                        3.  Students will know & use formulas for area and perimeter.

4 .  Students will calculate measures of central tendency.

                        5.  Students give reasonable estimates of measure relating to angles.

                        6.  Students will conduct experiments to determine then predict probabilities.

                        7.  Students work with graphs; collecting data, creating graphs and
                             interpreting information from various graphs.

                              8.   Students will understand the concept of a variable.

                              9.  Students will solve one & two step equations including variables.

 MATH 6  (7th & 8th hours)

Students will begin the year with a review of basic math skills including; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  Once students are comfortable completing basic algorithms relating to each operation they will begin working in the Impact Mathematics course one book.  Students will work independently, with partners or in small groups exploring new concepts.

            OBJECTIVES:

                                        1. Students will become proficient with operations of addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division of 2 and 3 digit numbers.

                        2. Students will become proficient with operations of fractions and decimals.

(addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

                        3. Students can relate equivalents between fraction, decimals & percents.

                        4.  Students will know & use formulas for area and perimeter.

                        5.  Students will calculate measures of central tendency.

                        6.  Students give reasonable estimates of measure relating to angles.

                        7.  Students will conduct experiments to determine then predict probabilities.

                        8.  Students work with graphs; collecting data, creating graphs and
                             interpreting information from various graphs.

                        9. Students will be introduce to variables and solving equations with variables.

FUNDAMENTAL MATH (4th hour)

Students will begin the year developing and improving their multiplication skills.  As these skills become mastered students will move into working with division.  They will work with at least 2 and 3 digit numbers finding products and quotients with decimals instead of remainders.  Once students have progressed in these areas they will move into the Impact Mathematics course one text book.  Each lesson has in class investigations that provide students an opportunity to explore and ask questions pertaining to each concept.

OBJECTIVES:

                                        1. Students will become proficient with operations of addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division of 2 and 3 digit numbers.

                        2. Students will become proficient with operations of fractions and decimals.
                            (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

                        3. Students can relate equivalents between fraction, decimals & percents.

                        4.  Students will know & use formulas for area and perimeter.
