CLASSROOM RULES & EXPECTATIONS

The Classroom Rules
CREATED BY CIVICS' STUDENTS

  1. BE ON TIME (IN SEAT WHEN BELL RINGS)

  2. BRING ALL NECESSARY MATERIALS TO CLASS (EVERYDAY - BOOK, PAPER, PEN, PENCIL)

  3. IF TEACHER IS TALKING - YOU AREN'T!  YOU ARE LISTENING!  (EYES AND EARS)

  4. DO ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME

  5. NO EATING IN CLASS EXCEPT FOR GUM.  (MS. HARPER CAN TAKE IT AWAY IF IT IS CAUSING A DISTRACTION)

  6. WATER, PROPEL AND GATORADE ARE ALL ALLOWED BUT NO OTHER BEVERAGES.  (MRS. MCGUIRE CAN TAKE IT AWAY IF IT IS CAUSING A DISTRACTION)

  7. PARTICIPATE WITH ALL STUDENTS IN GROUPS OR AS PARTNERS

  8. BEHAVE IN A RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL AND MATURE MANNER

  9. KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF!

  10. NO ARGUING WITH TEACHER - USE "T" SIGN TO DISCUSS ISSUES LATER.

  11. NO STUDENT LAWYERS (ONLY FRIDAYS AT 4:30 WITH AN APPOINTMENT)

  12. THROWING ITEMS IS NOT ALLOWED

  13. ABSENT OR LATE WORK IS STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY

  14. KNOW AND FOLLOW RESTROOM PROCEDURE:  USE CROSSED FINGER SIGN, FILL OUT STUDENT PASS COMPLETELY IN ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOK FOR MS. HARPER AND SIGN OUT AT THE DOOR.

  15. BE IN YOUR SEAT AT THE END OF CLASS FOR DISMISSAL BY TEACHER - NOT THE BELL

MS. HARPER'S PROCEDURES TO GET YOU BACK ON TRACK:  YOU GET “THE LOOK”, SAY YOUR NAME OR  WALK CLOSE TO YOU, IF THESE PROCEDURES FAIL, I WILL QUIETLY GIVE YOU A REFOCUS TO REDIRECT YOUR ATTENTION –IF THIS IS NOT EFFECTIVE A  2ND REFOCUS IS GIVEN AND YOU WILL RECEIVE A  DISCIPLINE REFERRAL AND A CALL HOME

LATE WORK

Assignments turned in after the class period in which they were due, or the following school day will receive 25% taken off the grade.  In addition, you will serve Now or Noon..  The assignment must be completed and turned in to Mrs. Smigielski.  All work must beturned by the end of the grading period. 

ABSENCES/TARDIES

 You are to be in the class,  when the bell rings. If you have received two tardies, it will result in a detention. If you are absent, please refer to the assignment page posted in the classroom.  You must sign the form to acknowledge that you have reviewed the assignment or received the necessary documents to complete the assignment.  These will be available in the designated location in the classroom. 

   GRADING SCALE
 You will be evaluated in the following areas.

Homework                    15%
In Class Work               15%
Project                           30%
Quizzes                        10%
Responsibility              10%
Tests                              20%
                                       100%


Students will receive 3 responsibility points per day.  A student will have points taken away for being tardy, late assignments, incomplete assignments, behavior, participation, or not having supplies in class.

100 A+   77-79 C+
93-99 A    73-76 C 
90-92 A-   70-72 C-
87-89 B+   67-69 D+
83-86 B    63-66 D 
80-82 B-   60-62 D-
59 and below F
