 WHAT IS CIVICS?

The curriculum for the 8th Grade Social Studies is called Civics.

So, what is Civics?  Civics is from the Latin Word – civis – meaning CITIZEN

Why study Civics?
What does it mean to be an American?  What do we believe about our country and government?  How do we know what to expect from our government?  How do we know what is expected of us?  These
are all questions that can be addressed by the study of Civics.

We will study Civics in two specific areas:

Government
Economics

Issues in the government,
the branches of government,
and rights and responsibilities of citizens.

The study of money, inflation,
and supply and demand.
