Classroom Rules
1. Put forth your best effort everyday. (This means actively listening with an open mind. This
means participating in all class activities. This means working through what you don't understand
instead of shutting down.)
2. Make it so others around you can learn, too. (Set differences aside and include others in
your group. Give people around you a chance to think and speak for themselves. Remember that
people cannot concentrate if they are distracted, upset or scared.)
3. Engage in positive self-talk. (Tell yourself, "I can learn this. I will learn this. If Miss Hauri tells
herself, "I cannot teach these 6th graders how to read better," how much do you think you will learn
this year?)
