NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASTICS ASSOCIATION
ALL AMERICAN QUALIFIERS
The 2011-12 gymnastics team, as well as with three individual gymnasts, qualified for All-American status as awarded by the National High School Gymnastics Association.
The NHSGA sets high standards to qualify for this prestigious honor. As a team, the top four individual scores on each event are combined and must total 130 points or higher. The team must meet these requirements at least three times during the year, one of which must be in a championship competition (i.e. 5 or more team invitational, Regional or State meet series). RV gymnasts exceeded the requirements by surpassing this score a total of eight times during the season. In the history of RV gymnastics, only five teams have qualified as an All-American team. Members of this year’s All-American team are: Vanessa Clarson, Emily Kaul, Alyssa Kuhse, Tessa Markart, Armani Paulus, Nikkie Rasmussen, Emma Voss, and Kirsten Voss.
In addition, three gymnasts qualified for individual honors. To obtain All-American status as an individual, gymnasts must reach the following marks five times during the season, two of which must be in a championship competition: vault 8.7, uneven bars 8.5, beam 8.5, floor 8.8, and all-around 8.4.
Senior Kirsten Voss qualified for the fourth straight year. This year she qualified on all four events and as an all-around. Freshman Emma Voss qualified on both vault and beam.
Receiving the honor for the second year, sophomore Alyssa Kuhse qualified as an All-American as no other RV gymnast has done before. Not only did she qualify as an All-American on vault, beam, and all-around, but she was able to reach the outstanding marks to qualify her as an Elite All-American gymnast on floor, with an average score of 9.525.
The NHSGA also awards varsity gymnasts for their academic success. Athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75. River Valley had two gymnasts receive Academic All-American status, Kirsten Voss and Emma Voss.
These concluding awards make this team one of the most decorated in RV gymnastics history.
