What is Sensory Integration?

Often times, occupational therapists are asked by parents and teachers about sensory integration.  Simply stated, sensory integration occurs when a child's brain is able to organize and interpret the sights, sounds, movements, and touch sensations that occur in the world around them.  When this process occurs, children are capable of higher learning and social-emotional responses.  There is a lot of information available to parents about sensory integration.  Please visit the resource page for recommended reading selections on sensory integration.  The link listed below will also help you to better understand sensory integration.
