FUNDAMENTAL MATH

Fundamental Math is held 4th hour

Students will start the year with a math inventory to rate where they are at with their math skills and abilities.  After the inventory, review and practice will begin within the areas of each student's needs.  Upon completion of reviewing basic skills the class will begin with the Impact Mathematics program.

Multiplication facts are a must in 6th grade math. All students need to be able to recite their multiplication facts.  Knowing math facts play an important role with a student's math progression.  Students who have mastered their basic facts will have greater success with math.  Students will be making their own flashcards as well as learning games and activities to help improve multiplication skills.  Please remind students to use these tools to practice math facts a few times each week.

Impact Mathematics is both a comprehensive program, including number & operations, proportional reasoning, geometry, probability and data, as well as a program focused on the development of algebraic thinking.

Impact mathematics does require more reading and writing than your child may be use to from their previous math experiences.  Students will need to learn to read questions carefully as well as write out and fully explain answers.

Impact Mathematics is written to help students use and sharpen their own logical thinking and learn to be comfortable with the abstractions that give mathematics its power.  Students will be given the opportunity to develop their ideas and mathematical imagination, as well as acquire the skills that support their good thinking plus the ability to express their ideas clearly to others.

It is essential that all students are proficient with their basic multiplication facts.  Multiplication facts play an important role with a student's math progression.  Please remind your child to review their facts weekly.  The more fluent students are with their facts the more successful students will be in class.

All students need to come to class prepared, to be prepared students need to have their math textbook, pencils, red pen and paper.

DAILY LESSONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
