Language Arts and Writing

Your child will be doing a lot of writing this year. Writing will begin with a mini lesson after which students will do independent writing. We will make class and individual books. Many times writing will be centered around a reading story, Science, or Social Studies topics. Students will make use of their Word Book and the Word Wall when writing. Students may also complete a Daily Language Review (DLR) as a group each day. Skills covered include spelling, capitalization, usage, and punctuation. These skills will be taught and reviewed throughout the year. More independence will be expected as the year progresses. Grades will be taken on these sheets.
