Alternative forms of Transportation

Introduction
Suppose that the world only has a 2 year supply left of fossil fuels. This would include fuels such as gasoline and diesel fuel. How would our lives be affected by this change? What would we do to provide power for our transportation systems? How would our modes of transportation change? Could you design a vehicle that would meet human needs and not use these types of fuel? What would it look like and how would it work?
The Task
Top world leaders need your research company to find a vehicle that will transport at least 4 people and travel at least 200 miles without stopping. Working with a partner, research different modes of transportation that do not use fossil fuels to power the vehicle. Compare your findings to a vehicle that is currently being used in the world today. You will need to supply pictures, descriptions, and working diagrams of your alternative form of transportation. Use the internet as a resource to gather your information. After your research company has collected the data, you will present it to the world leaders ( our class) convincing us you have found the best solution for our problem.
The Process
* Use internet search engines such as: google.com, yahoo.com to find your data.
* Check the resources supplied to you by the teacher.
* Research what fossil fuels are and where they come from.
* Search for alternative modes of transportation that fit the correct criteria.
* Gather all your data in the form of pictures, diagrams, and facts. List your resources.
* Organize your data and prepare it to convince people you have the best solution.
* Present your information to the class.

Evaluation / Assessment
| The following rubric will be used in evaluating
your proposal: 50 pts. (A) - Presentation contains all the data and covers all the criteria. Your research company has convinced the class you have found the best solution. 40 pts. (B) - Presentation contains 90% of the data and criteria. Your research company has convinced the class you have found the best solution. 30 pts. (C) - Presentation contains 70% of the data and criteria. Your research company has convinced the class you have found the best solution. 25 pts. (D) - Presentation contains 60% of the data and criteria. Your research company has convinced the class you have found the best solution. 24 pts. and lower (F) - Presentation contains 59% or less of the data and criteria. Your research company has NOT convinced the class you have found the best solution. |
