Science and Social Studies
Science
Our
second grade science book in the River Valley School District is the Scott Foresman
Science curriculum. Throughout the year the children will work on the following
four units: Life Science-in this unit the children will learn about plants and
animals now and long ago. Physical Science-this unit teaches the children about
matter, sound, heat, light, force, magnets, and electricity. Earth Science-in
this unit the children will learn about the earth, weather, seasons, and the solar
system. The final unit is the Human Body. In this unit they will learn how
their bodies work and how to keep them healthy.
Please let us know if you have any related information about these units to add to the class. We tend to work out of the book along with added activities, library books, and experiments. Sometimes we will search for information on the Internet.

Social
Studies
Our social studies book is called We Live Together. We will work on the following five main areas: Our Community, All About Earth, Our Past, All About Work, and Our Government. We will also spend sometime in the fall studying Native Americans and in the winter we will do a unit on African Americans. Throughout the year we will be reviewing the seven continents and the four oceans using maps and the globe.
