Spelling 

We will not be having a spelling workbook this year in second grade. We will be using words that fit into specfic rules such as long a words.  We will also be incorporating the word wall words which are high-frequency words.  They will learn to read and spell these high-frequency words and the patterns that allow them to decode and spell a lot of other words.  For example if the word is 'make' they should be able to spell words such as take, bake, cake, shake, etc.  Look for a list to come home. They will have practiced all of the words in school before the test.  On some of the shorter weeks we might not have spelling words.

The last day of each week will be the final spelling test.  On the previous day we will have a pretest and if the students get all of the words correct, they will not have to take the final test.  Please help them study the list.
