Time To Teach Discipline

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our discipline program. Education is a team effort between parents, students and teachers. Each person is important and no one can succeed alone. The purpose of this note is to give you an overview of my discipline plan and let you know how you can help.

Our school is using the Time to Teach Curriculum. As part of this program your child will be taught what  behavior is acceptable and what behavior is not. This is accomplished by doing many Teach To's during the first weeks of school.  Once a behavior has been taught and practiced the student will need to refocus if they decide not to follow the correct behavior.  In my room students will refocus by taking down their apples.  Each day a student starts with three apples.

Green is the color of the first apple. It should be your child’s goal to keep it up all day. If your child kept his or her green apple up all day he or she will bring home a green apple to show you.

Yellow is the color of the second apple. If a student chooses not to follow the correct behavior they will have to remove their green apple and have a conference with the teacher regarding their behavior.

Red is the color of the third apple.  If a student continues not to choose the correct behavior they will have to remove their yellow apple, have a conference with the teacher, and sit for 5 minutes on the bench at the following recess.

If the red apple is lost parents will be contacted.

Please take the time to ask your child what color apple they ended the day with and what they did to earn it.
