Plain Elementary School
Parent Bulletin #3
October 27,2004

It is hard to believe that we are nearly into the second quarter of school and Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner! Conferences take place the evening of Thursday, November 11th and the morning of Friday, November 12th. All parents are encouraged to attend their fifteen minute conference. This is a nice opportunity for parents and teachers to visit one another regarding student progress. Report cards will be handed out at conferences.

Annual Book Fair

The Title 1 Reading Program is making plans for a book fair to be held during Parent-Teacher Conferences. If you would be able to volunteer one hour of your time to help run the fair, please contact Mrs. Kinney, Title I Teacher.

What difference can it make to read aloud to a child for thirty minutes per day? Children who come to school who have not been read to are 2,000 hours of instruction behind their classmates who were read to. No teacher, no matter how talented, can make up for those lost hours of mental nourishment. Please take the time to feed your child a story!

Classroom Group Pictures and Retakes

Classroom group pictures and individual retakes will be taken the morning of Wednesday, November 17.

Morning Reminders

Students who walk to school should not arrive before the doors open at 7:40.

Breakfast is served from 7:40 until 7:55.

Our morning bell rings at 8:00 and classes begin promptly at 8:05.

Thank You!

A huge THANK YOU goes out to parents, PEP Club, families, and staff for making our annual Fall Festival a huge success! Your participation makes this fun event happen!

Verizon Fundraiser

Verizon Long Distance is offering a way for schools to raise funds. If you are a Verizon Long Distance Customer, 5% of your total long distance charges will be donated to a school of your choice. For example, if your long distance charges totaled $100 for the month, the donation would be $5. More details can be obtained by calling 877-927-3348.

Two Hour Delay

School will start at 10:05 on Wednesday, November 3rd. Breakfast is not served on delayed start days.

Cold Weather is Near!

Snow and cold are not far away! Please check with your little ones before they leave in the morning to make sure they have outdoor clothing suitable to allow them comfortable participation on the playground. While we certainly don’t take students out in adverse or extremely cold conditions, we do try to see that they get fresh air and winter activity. From time to time we do have children without heavy coats, hats, mittens, snow pants, and boots. If we can help in any way, please let us know.
