A NOTE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
Weve had a number of questions concerning taking medications during the school day. I hope this will clarify the situation.
It is the policy of the River Valley School District that any elementary child taking medication at school must be under the supervision of a staff person. This includes prescription or over-the-counter medication. In other words, whether your child brings something for a headache or medication prescribed by a physician, we must be aware when it is taken. This includes inhalers used for asthma treatment.
We do allow a middle or high school student who is responsible to carry one dose of an over the counter analgesic on their person to take for the day. However, prescriptions medications particularily controlled substances must be kept in the Health office for administration.
The following are also necessary:1. A completed Medication Administration Information form.
2. Medication must be in its original container, labeled, and with the childs name on it.
This all seems quite complicated, but it is for the protection and safety of your child, so all medications are properly taken and accounted for. If you have any questions, please contact Marcia Creasey or Michelle Ford.
