| Fourth grade Social Studies consists of lessons about the regions
of the United States and Wisconsin. At the beginning of the year we work on all of
the different Social Studies strands including government, geography, history, economics,
and how all of these topics work together. We will learn a little bit about the six
regions of the U.S. Students have a better idea of the difference between a
continent, a country, a state, and a city. All students should be able to list the
continents and major oceans and find them on a map. In fifth grade the students will
go into more detail about the states and will also learn the history of the U.S. from the
1400's through the Civil War. We are learning how to
write notes and study from our notes. We have some great notes
about the three branches of government, national documents, and
important people. Each student got to choose an important person
for the notes and we sure have some interesting people.
Wisconsin is the traditional topic for
fourth graders. Students will be learning about the history of Wisconsin and many
other interesting topics. We hope to incorporate knowledge of southwestern Wisconsin
and especially the Plain area. Our class went to Madison to visit
the Capitol, Veteran's Museum, and the State Historical Society on March
14. Thanks to all of the chaperones for making the day such a
success. News about our state and area will be discussed. If you
see an interesting article about a local topic, send it to school so
that we can discuss it. We'll try to have a special spot in the
room for posting local and state news. |
