Building Technology Class 1 credit Block Period 2 hrs. 1 semester 18 weeks
The building Technology class is both building construction and woods manufacturing combined in the same class. In the area of building construction, the students will learn to safely use the basic tools and machines used in the building construction industry. Students will mix, pour and finish concrete. They will also lay -up a brick and block wall, build a deck, and build stud walls.
Students will also build rafters and trusses, install doors and windows, and shingle a roof. Students will do the finish work necessary to complete a wood storage building.
Students will also learn to read simple blueprints, order materials for a building, and determine building costs. At the end of the semester, students will have cooperated together to build a wood storage building which is then sold for the price of the materials.
Students will be doing hands-on activities in the lab using tools and machines to build wood projects. Students will measure, layout, and design wood projects. Students will use computers to do their design work. Students will use woodworking tools and machines to build projects.
Students will learn about the types of wood and wood joints. Students will learn about all of the steps in the construction process from foundation and basement to the roof. Students will learn about the types of building materials. Students will learn about the Building Construction Industry.
