      Drafting Technology Class

0.5 credits        1 semester       18 weeks

Students will be doing hands-on activities in lab work on both the computer and drawing on paper.

Students will work with AutoCAD 2009 software on the computer and drafting tools on paper to design and draw engineering objects with views and shapes.

Students will learn about drafting which includes subjects such as drawing, designing, engineering, measuring, and creating symbols used in almost all manufacturing industries.

Students will do 75% of their work in AutoCAD 2009 software and 25% of their work drawing and designing on paper with drafting equipment.  Students will learn about the drafting industry and the engineering industry.

Drafting is a very large industry in the world today.  An example is a jet airplane which would have more than 10,000 parts and all of those parts need a detailed drawing so that it could be manufactured in a plant to be used on the jet.

Students will learn the following basic principles and skills:

1.    AutoCAD 2009 software and Inventor 2009 3D software
2.    problem solving and design
3.    drawing views and sketches of objects
4.    designing engineering parts
5.    designing 3D objects using Inventor 2009
6.    dimensioning
7.    planning and layout of a drawing project
8.    printing and plotting of drawings
9.    electronic drawings or schematics
10.  lettering and title block
11.  working drawings used to build a product
12.  architectural drafting
13.  auxiliary views
14.  section views
15.  gears and mechanical moving parts drawings
