Independent Welding   Class

0.5 credit            1 semester            18 weeks

Students will be doing hands-on activities in the welding shop.  Students will be doing Gas, MIG, TIG and Arc welding.   Students will do practice welds to develop skill.

Students will be working on welding projects.  In this course students learn to set up and safely operate both arc welding and oxy-acetylene welding equipment.  Both manual and automatic gas cutting are included in the course.  Various joints are welded in the four basic welding positions.

The students experience the welding of different metal types, the use of inert gas welding, angle iron welding, square tube welding, and fusion gas welding.

Project work by the student further advances their welding skills in this course.  Seniors will be given preference in a limited enrollment.

Students will learn the following basic principles and skills:

1.      Shop safety
2.      welding parts and how they work
3.      gas welding
4.      arc welding
5.      MIG and TIG welding
