The beautiful David Allen Johnson Memorial Award Plaque, created with the assistance of Pam Chehade and Melissa Pronold, occupies a place of honor in the RVHS trophy case. Each year an RVHS student member of the Ski Racing Club who “demonstrates outstanding leadership, dedication, and love for the sport of skiing” will have their name added to the plaque, in the memory of Dave. Sara Alt and Heidi Pitts, both of Spring Green, have received the award for the 99/00 and the 00/01 seasons, respectively.

A Memorial Fund has also been established at M&I Bank, Spring Green. With assistance from you the Fund can help offset costs for students so the club is more accessible to all who have a passion for skiing, just as Dave would have wanted it. Contributions to the Fund are used for some student travel/training costs, limited purchase of team equipment, and possibly scholarships (in Dave’s name) in the future for graduating seniors who have participated in the club. There are no coaching costs associated with the club – all coaching and parent assistance is volunteer.

It is my hope that remembering and honoring Dave through this Memorial Award and Award Fund contributes to the dignity of Dave’s life, and his family; and that it makes us smile in his memory.
