Student Services

River Valley High School Alternative Education Program 

The Student Services department was established to provide better opportunities for students to succeed at the River Valley School District.  Recognizing multiple intelligence's and learning styles, and providing options for students to acquire knowledge and grow.

Resource(Pat Mahoney) - is a structured study room available to those students who are struggling with their classes.  Students receive help on an individual basis. Students who want to be considered for placement into Resource need to see their guidance counselor or the Resource Teacher.

Skill Lab(Pat Mahoney) - is an individualized computer based program of study for students who need to strengthen basic skills in Math, Reading, Writing, and Language. The program is administered by a Basic Skills Clinician, who will diagnose weak skill areas and then prescribe and monitor a self-paced program to strengthen those skills.  Students for the program are identified through Middle School Guidance, Administration, and Teachers as well as 8th grade test results and parental permission.

Learning Academy(Kathy Peetz) - is a small group learning environment with individualized, self-paced, multiple intelligence opportunities to learn.  It is offered in Freshman English, World Studies, and U.S. History.  Placement is based on recommendations from the Middle School Guidance, Administration, and Teachers with parental consultation.

Alternative High School - (Bob Weinswig) the school is at a separate site, a fabulous double wide trailer with wonderful accommodations.  It focuses on 10th, 11th, and 12th graders who are credit deficient or looking for an alternative setting.
