Reading
Ms. Swenson will be helping with the reading program again this year. We will continue to review and work on reading strategies throughout the year. We will be using our reading series, Houghton Mifflin, along with several trade books and The Accelerated Reader Program (AR).
AR is an important part of our reading program. We will be using it as part of the student's reading grade. The goal for all students is to improve their individual level of reading throughout the year.
Each student is required to read six (6) books at each level,
(2 chapter, 2 nonfiction, and 2 choice books).
They must have an 80% on the comprehension tests.
Reading Log: Students will fill in a reading log each week. They are expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes each school night. This will increase to 30 minutes at semester. A new log will be in the Friday Folders each week.
