Discuss Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee Recommendation Related to Human
Growth and Development Curriculum
The Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee has spent a great deal of time discussing the human growth and development curriculum. The Advisory Committees recommendation is that we teach what has traditionally been known as "sex education" in a larger framework to be called "relationships education." The Human Growth and Development Committee provided the Policy Committee with a one-page recommendation that provides guidelines for teaching this curriculum. Essentially, the proposal recommends teaching the risks and consequences of pre-marital sexual involvement; teaching students how to select, access, and utilize resources to prevent pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, while placing an emphasis on abstinence.
The recommendation will be discussed by the Policy Committee on Tuesday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m.
The April Regular Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2001.
